Issue: UltraVPN is really slow on my Mac device. I'm a Premium member using my Mac computer or laptop, but I can't even stream a video or movie.
About slow speeds on a Mac
When you’re connected to UltraVPN or any VPN service, data going in and out of your device travels through the VPN servers first before reaching their target. That's how internet anonymity is achieved and why it's normal to experience a speed reduction of 30%–50% when using any VPN service.
You can always try switching protocol to Wireguard or IPsec in the Settings of the app (Gear icon in the left side panel of the app)
To perform a speed test on your Mac device:
1. Start UltraVPN and connect to a virtual location (Germany or the UK, for example). Or connect to the virtual location where you noticed this speed drop.
2. Now, please go to this website, https://www.speedtest.net/, when you are connected to UltraVPN to view where you will be doing the Speed test.
3. Before starting this test, make sure to click on the Change server button. Refer to the screenshot below to see where that button is. IMPORTANT: When you click on the change server button, make sure to enter a city that is in the same country as the virtual location that you selected in UltraVPN when you got connected. Or try to choose the closest possible location to the virtual location you selected. After selecting the server that matches the location or is close to it, please make sure to write down the name of the server you just selected. We will need to use this same server in another speed test later on.
4. Also, before starting the test, make sure you select the "Single" connection option.
5. Begin the speed test, wait for the test to finish, and copy the link or URL once completed. Please paste that info into the same email for us. Refer to the screenshots below to find where to copy the link.
6. We are going to repeat another speed test, but first, please disconnect UltraVPN entirely.
7. After disconnecting UltraVPN, go back to the SpeedTest site and select “Change Server” again, selecting the same server that was selected in the first test. Continue to have UltraVPN disconnected for this next test. A Quick Tip: If you didn’t note or cannot remember the name of the original server you tested, paste the same URL or link to the first speed test into another browser tab, and the name will be visible to you.
8. Proceed to run the speed test. Please wait for the test to finish and click on the speed test results option once again when completed.
9. Lastly, we just need you to check the information that you have been preparing for our support team to review. The information should contain the 2 URLs or links from the speed test results, one with the VPN ON and one with the VPN OFF, and then the IP address when UltraVPN is connected.
10. If all the above is verified from step 9, please continue to reach to our support team in the chat bubble in the bottom-right corner.
